5.4-My trip to Browick Road Primary School.

Today the diploma group all wen't on a trip to Browick Road Primary School in Wymondham to do a theatre in education (also known as tie) workshop with the year 2's. To start we had two groups do a performance on donating and charity shops, we then moved off into 3 seperate groups, one group for each class, to start the workshops. Our group consisted of 6 people. We started off with

Quidenham Children's Hospice.

Quidenham Hospice support children and their families with the challenges that having a life-threatening condition can often bring. Services may be provided in the family home, the community or the hospice.

The range of servcices include.. 

• Day care in the family home or hospice, or both
• Overnight breaks in the hospice
• Support for parents, siblings, grandparents and others close to the child
• 24 hour telephone support and advice
• Therapies - music, physio, occupational and specialist play
• Family information service
• End of life care in the family home or the hospice depending on family preference
• Annual Memory Days and ongoing support for bereaved families

What they do.
Childrens Hospice do a range of activities to raise money for the charity, such as runs, quizes etc. For christmas they are even doing a 'santa run!' where everyone dresses up as santa and does a run between 1.5 and 3km.
How do they advertise.
They use adverts on radio stations and on the tv, posters, leaflets, charity events and lots more.

Scene One: (black and white)

A young girl lying in a hospital bed, her mum gets told by the doctors her daughter may not live for much longer due to a serious terminal illness. We see the doctor walk away, and the mother cry.

Scene Two:

A man dumps a bag of donations outside a charity shop and it turns to colour and a ‘kerching’ noise plays.

Scene Three:

The girl gets out of bed happily because she now has enough money to go on a day out with her family and she immediately steps into a park and she is running along holding balloons with her family.

Scene Four:

The man who dumps the donations stands up and says: ‘Look how easy it is to put a smile on a child’s face’. And ‘don’t wait, go donate’ appears on the screen.

My Phone Call To The Charity Shop.

Today me and my group had to make a phone call to a local charity shop in Wymondham to ask whether going in and seeing them next week would be okay. The phone call sounded a bit like this..
My group-Hello this is Vickey, Nina and Kaidee, We are calling from Wymondham High and are currently studying creative and media. Can we speak to the manager please?
Manager-Hello, yes thats me.
My group- Oh right, we believe our teacher came and saw you before the summer holidays to ask if we could come in and see you some time this week?
Manager-Hey, yeah I remember that.
My group-So we were ringing to check if its still okay if we come in and help raise awareness of your charity shop by creating posters, assembly's, leaflets and show's this tuesday?
Manager-Thats fine, it sounds great.
My group-So what time would be okay for you, we would rather do between 9-11?
Manager-Anytime will be fine.
My group-Okay, thank you, we will be looking forward to seeing you soon, goodbye.

In the phone call we had to make sure we introduced ourselves, where we were calling from and why, incase they thought it was a prank call. We also had to include what we would be doing so they knew roughly why we were coming into help them.

letter to wymondham and attleborough mercury

Dear the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury,

                                         We are writing to ask you if we can put an advertisement in your newspaper. We are studying creative and media at school and one of our tasks is to help a local charity shop by creating posters, leaflets and adverts and we’d be very greatfull if you’d consider putting the enclosed advert into your newspaper. This would be helping the local charity, Quidenham Children’s Hospice, to raise donations and gain income.
